Violin from Nicolo Amati

Nicolo Amati is the son and the student of Girolamo, and Andrea's grandson. He was born in Cremona in 1596. Firstly, he imitates the instruments made by his father. He then changes the principles of the construction of his instruments. He designs the model "Grand Amati", based on the models of his predecessor which he increases the bout. This model became the standard of the violin makers from Cremona and abroad, making him the most famous violin maker from Amati's family. He trains among other in his workshop Andrea Guarneri, transmitting his techniques and methods while ensuring the development of the violin making in Cremona.
